About Us

AFC Rushden & Diamonds Walking Football is a vibrant and friendly club dedicated to promoting active, social, and inclusive football for players of all ages and abilities. Since 2014, we believe in the power of walking football to enhance health, build community, and foster a love for the game. Join us to enjoy the fun, fitness, and camaraderie that come with every game!
Potential players must be aged over 50, however in exceptional circumstances, we will consider individuals who may be slightly younger. We run sessions on a Monday evening between 7:30 pm and 9:00 pm at the Ferrers School in Higham Ferrers (on a 3G pitch). If you are aged 50+, send us an email or simply turn up on the night and join in.
Your first session will be free, then just £4.00 a week, plus £10 annual associate membership fee. Walking Football is part of the AFC Rushden and Diamonds Community Benefit Society. While associate members can’t vote on club matters, the membership allows the team to play under the AFC Rushden and Diamonds name and covers FA affiliation and player insurance costs.
We have regular friendly fixtures against local sides and enter local tournaments, as well as running our own, usually in May/June. Additionally we get involved in the local community, such as car park supervision (vaccination centres).
We also run events and activities outside of walking football, such as:
-
Foot golf
-
After session drinks
-
Lunchtime drinks

Walking Football Rules
Walking - No Running!
It seem's obvious given the name, but walking football is strictly that. Players must not jog or run throughout the game.
Team Size
The size of the team can vary but must always be 5 v 5 or 7 v 7.
The Ball
A regular football is used to play but the ball must remain at cross bar height at all times.
The Pitch
Walking Football may be played with or without barriers but without barriers is recommended as the safest option.
Only goalkeepers are allowed in the area.
Heading the ball
This is strictly forbidden in the rules of walking football. If a ball is coming for your head - duck!
Throw-Ins
Regular throw-ins are not permitted in the game of walking football. All throw-ins must be rolled or kicked into play.
Slide Tackles
Slide tackles are not permitted. If a player is deemed to have dangerously tackled or slide tackled another player from behind - relevant sanctions will be imposed upon that player.
Offside
There is no offside rule in walking football. Just watch out for goalhangers!
Sanctions
Relevant sanctions will be imposed on players who persistently infringe the rules of the game.
